The Brazilian Landscape, situation and population

Brazil is the most extensive state and also the most densely populated area in South America, the 5th in the world with 183.888.941 inhabitants, concentrated mainly in the littoral.

Brasilien

The scenery of Brazil is determined in the north by vast rain forests of the Amazon area. In the middle west there are big Savannah areas, in the south mountains and plateaus with dry woods. The climate of Brazil is mainly tropical with high precipitations and shows only low seasonal temperature variations. The south is semitropical and has a more moderated climate. In the northeast of the country there are dry regions.

The population is formed originally from four groups: the Indian natives, Portuguese colonialists, African slaves as well as immigrants from Europe and Asia. Nowadays there is not a clear appreciation of the different groups due to the ethnical mix between them.

Most of the population lives in the coastal regions. The official language of Brazil is Portuguese.
