Gastronomy of Argentina

The Argentine gastronomy offers a great diversity of international dishes, influenced by the Italian and Spanish cuisine, which makes it very similar to the Mediterranean diet.

Every region has its own culinary tradition, so though the roast, the pies, the milk jam and the national beverage the mate tee are extended in the whole country, you will find during your trip a varied offer of culinary dishes elaborated mainly with the products of each area consisting of different kind of meats, cereals and vegetables.

Argentina is known for the excellent quality of its meat worldwide being one of the local dishes "el asado" (roast). "El asado" consists of various kinds of meats and sausages cooked on a grill on wooden coals although it can be prepared as well on wood or on embers.

"El dulce de leche" (milk jam) is one of the most popular and sweetest dishes in Argentina.

Also popular of the Argentine cuisine are the varied empanadas (pies) and pizzas.

As side dishes you can select from a variety of salads or fried potatoes.

Yerba Mate - The Mate Tea

You will find people drinking this tea at all times throughout the day. The mate is considered the national beverage.

The tree of the mate is similar to the laurel and grows in wooded subtropical regions and can be found in different countries of South America: Brazil, Paraguay and in some departments of Uruguay.

Scientific studies have demonstrated the therapeutic and curative effects of the mate not only because its high level of potassium, sodium and magnesium but also of vitamins A, B and C, having surprising beneficial effects for energy, concentration and vitality and is considered as an excellent diuretic.
