Places to visit in Bolivia

In the Bolivian country we can enjoy an immense variety of places of interest thanks to its landscape richness, different cultures and remains of the thousand-year-old history of its indigenous inhabitants and former civilizations.

Among interesting places in Bolivia, we can visit in the region of La Paz, in the west of the country, the lake Titicaca, located in the Andes and that is the highest navigable lake of the world. It is placed between Peru and Bolivia, trace of an immense sea that was before occupying the area. Here you can enjoy the excursions offered across the lake and taste the fish dishes. A ride to the city La Paz, trade center of the country, and that offers an impressive architecture and shows a combination between the modern and former Bolivia. One of the most interesting places to visit are the museums of ancient cultures and the indigenous markets.

One of the most popular indigenous markets is the market of the wizards "mercado de los brujos" where lucky charms and products related to natural medicine and shamanism are sold.

The ruins of Tiwanaku, located in the department of La Paz, is a place to visit. These ruins are remains of the culture previous to the Inca or Tihanuanaco. Here it is located "La Puerta de la Luna" (The moon's door), the spiritual and political centre of the Tiahuanaco culture. A spectacular moonscape offers the "Valle de la Luna" (The Valley of the Moon).

In Potosí, declared by the UNESCO in Boliva as National Heritage, one of the most interesting places to visit is the "Iglesia de San Lorenzo" (St. Lawrence Church) a combination between christian and indigenous architecture.

Other spectacular places is the Salar de Uyuni a spectacular white desert; "La Laguna Colorada" (The Red Lagoon) a good opportunity to observe flamingos or the "Parque Nacional de Toro" (National Park of Bull) where prints of dinosaurs have been discovered.

In Santa Cruz it is located Samaipata the biggest architectural monument in South America and that has been declared Cultural Heritage by the UNESCO.

The biological research station in Beni "La Fortuna", an environment of a huge biodiversity of fauna and flora and remains of ancestral cultures.
