Iceland is a high interesting place for the visitors, and tourism and the phenomenon of trips are an important activity in the country.
Iceland is characteristic for its national parks. The National park Vatnajökull, is one of the largest that can be found in Europe and one of the most visited parks in Iceland, including the Jökulsárgljúfu National Park in the north of the country with spectacular colourful landscapes of its volcanic mountains and to the south the Skaftafell National Park, besides large extensions of glaciers.
Pingvellir or valley of assembly was declared World Heritage in the 90s by the UNESCO and is one of the most important historical places of Iceland. It was the meeting point of an open-air-assempbly representing the whole of Iceland, which met once a year during the period 930 - 1798 and set laws. Known as the Althing, this assembly has deep historical associations for Iceland's population. This natural park is of special ecological interest and the largest lake of Iceland is located in its territory, lake Pingvallatn.
One of the most spectacular attractions in Iceland is without doubt Geysir and the park of Haukadalur. Located in the south west of Iceland and with phenomenal steam rising from hot springs and streams all over its extension. Today unfortunately inactive due to irresponsible behaviour of tourists and locals who threw rocks into the geysir to stop activity. Steaming water can be observed in Strokkur, an area with many marked walking paths and worth to visit to observe mud formations rich in mineral.
Volcanoes in activity can be found in the area of Landmannalaugar a territory with abundant thermal and flowing water, located in the interior of the Reservation of Pösmork.
