Gastronomy of Sweden and traditional dishes

Sweden's cuisine is quite similar to its neighbours, Norway and Denmark, and the preparation of meals uses simple and contrasting flavours, including healthy ingredients.

Fish dishes are very popular and there are many to choose from. The cod is specially is one principal fish type cooked and served in many ways, besides herrings, oysters and caviar.

Meat dishes are mainly prepared with pork. One of the most traditional dishes is the "Kötbullar", meatball dish, that consists of minced beef and pork served usually with boiled potatoes.

A basic element of Sweden's gastronomy are soups of different vegetables such as the soup of white peas. Vegetables (particularly carrots and cabbages) are very popular and can be found in many different dishes and soups. A traditional soup is the Ärtsoppa (pea soup).

The "Chokladboll" are little chocolate balls and are a traditional dessert in Sweden, made from sugar, coffee, oatmeal, butter and cocoa sprinkled. Pastries consist of cakes, pies, suites, cookies employing for the preparation ingredients such as chocolate, cream, fruits and berries. Pancakes are served as dessert with sweet jam or whipped cream.

Beverages and drinks: Sweden is one of the largest consumers of coffee. The traditional beverage, especially consumed during Christmas time is "Julmust", a soft drink quite similar in flavour to the beer.
