Although, Uruguay is the second smallest country in South America, it is one of the better preserved countries offering incredible natural environments and a lot of activities. It is still quite unknown for the traditional tourism and a paradise for the ecological tourism, an important increasing industry in the country.

One of the most visited departments by ecological tourists is Rocha. Hiking throughout the National Park "Santa Teresa" and surroundings is a good option to experience the natural environment. Horse riding is very popular throughout the country and short as well as excursions during several days are offered in many places.

The good preservation of its environment made it possible for many bird species to find an ideal place to survive and for those interested, Uruguay is a recommended destination for bird watching while hiking through wild or even marked trails.

The Atlantic Ocean, known as a rough ocean, and good wind conditions in Uruguay are for surfers a challenge. Besides the most popular water sports, surf and windsurf, scuba diving is increasing and becoming one of the water activities in Uruguayan waters.

As a country with a large fishing tradition, anglers will have many opportunities for this kind of activity in spectacular environments.

In the capital, Montevideo, there are a wide range of cultural events, specially for those interested in Tango, besides the colonial architecture of its buildings.
