Gastronomy of Nepal

The diversity of the country is also reflected in its gastronomy. Dishes are easy to prepare and famous for their high nutritional level. Basic element in the preparation of recipes are spices such as pepper, ginger, chilli and mustard oil. Rice is one of the main ingredients in combination with vegetables and it is often consumed twice a day, as the Dal Bhat, a rice recipe and popular dish of Nepalese people.

Nepalese use to have two main meals and snacks such as the chura, beaten rice, or the roti, flat bread, in between.

"Vegetable Pulao", consists in fried rice with vegetables and is a traditional dish mainly served during special events. "Alu Tama", typical for Nepal, a combination of bamboo shoots spiced with curry. "Vegetable Thukpa" a traditional dish also a typical food during special events and depending on the season.

Recipes combining rice a meats, usually chicken, mutton and pork, are also very common to find in the Nepalese cuisine. One of the most typical and traditional dishes is the "Masu", consisting in meat spiced with curry and usually served with rice.

The tea is commonly consumed during daytime. "Nepali Chiya" is the regular tea, besides other teas that are seasoned with different spices such as the "Himalayan Tea", that is seasoned with salt and butter. Also very traditional are beverages made of yogurt and fruits, such as the "Papaya Lassi".
